My i Mac running Mac OS Ventura 13.4.1 (c) was successfully printing on my HP LaserJet M533 printer via ethernet cable to a wifi node in my house.Yesterday it stopped working. I made no changes that I am aware of before this happened. The basic problem is that the Mac does not see the printer in add printers. I have tried various HP solutions but they all require me to add the printer.I have turned everything off and on, checked that my internet is working, removed the HP drivers, removed all printers in the drivers pane of settings, tried HP business roam and prayed to the gods of the connectivity, all to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Umslopogas

Hi @umslopogas,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your iMac fails to recognize the HP LaserJet M533 printer, there could be several reasons behind this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the problem.

  • Check the physical connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your iMac. Make sure the USB cable or network connection (if using Ethernet or Wi-Fi) is securely plugged into both the printer and the iMac.
  • Restart the printer and iMac: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues between devices. Turn off both the printer and iMac, wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on.
  • Update macOS: Ensure that your iMac is running the latest version of macOS. Apple frequently releases updates that can improve hardware compatibility and resolve various issues.
  • Update printer drivers: Visit the HP support website and check if there are any updated drivers available for your HP LaserJet M533 printer. Download and install the latest drivers for macOS to ensure proper communication with your iMac.
  • Check printer settings: On your HP LaserJet M533 printer, go to the settings menu and check if it's connected to the correct network (if using Wi-Fi) or if the USB mode is enabled (if using a USB connection).
  • Reset printing system: Sometimes, resetting the printing system on macOS can help resolve recognition issues. To do this, go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners," right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the list of printers, and choose "Reset printing system." Confirm the action and enter your administrator password if prompted. Note that this will remove all printers from your list, so you'll need to re-add them afterward.
  • Check firewall and security software: Ensure that your firewall or security software is not blocking communication between the printer and your iMac. Temporarily disable any third-party security software and try connecting the printer again.
  • Test with a different cable or connection: If you're using a USB connection, try using a different USB cable and a different USB port on your iMac. If using a network connection, try using a different Ethernet cable or connect the printer to a different Wi-Fi network.
  • Try on a different computer: If possible, try connecting the HP LaserJet M533 printer to a different computer (Windows or macOS) to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the printer or the iMac.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
