HI @Eplantz,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing printing issues after updating your iPad to iOS 18 and receiving an "incorrect file type" error, here are some steps to troubleshoot the problem:
1. Check File Type
- Ensure the document or image you are trying to print is in a supported format. Common formats include PDF, JPEG, PNG, and Microsoft Office files.
2. Update Printer Firmware
- Check if your printer has a firmware update available. Visit the manufacturer’s website for instructions on updating the firmware.
3. Restart Devices
- Restart your iPad: Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.
- Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
4. Re-add the Printer
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth and disconnect from the printer. Then go to Settings > Printers & Scanners and re-add your printer.
5. Use AirPrint
- Ensure your printer supports AirPrint. If it does, try printing directly through the AirPrint option:
- Open the document or image, tap the Share icon, then select Print and choose your AirPrint-enabled printer.
6. Check Wi-Fi Connection
- Ensure your iPad and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If the printer is networked, check its connection status on the printer’s display.
7. Try Different Apps
- Attempt to print from different apps (like Files, Photos, or a specific document app) to see if the issue is isolated to one app.
8. Reset Network Settings
- If issues persist, you can reset your iPad’s network settings:
- Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note that this will erase saved Wi-Fi networks.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

After updating to iOS18 my iPhone 12, 16, and an iPad also will not print to a LaserJet MF479fdw. They all printed fine with iOS17. Fortunately I still have an iPad on 17 which allows printing to that same printer.

No this does not help. I get a screen: open the app and accept the new regulations. But the app does not open. When i discard the app en open it again from Apple the app gives even no opportunity to log in. This is on a i phone and i pad.
