Hi @manoir1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the situation—and I’m truly sorry your HP LaserJet P1005 isn’t connecting to your MacBook Air. I appreciate your persistence and the effort you’ve already made.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery path to restore printing functionality on macOS.

Step-by-step recovery for connecting HP LaserJet P1005 to macOS

1. Confirm USB connection and power status

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and connected directly to your MacBook Air via USB
  • Avoid using USB hubs or adapters during setup
  • If using a USB-C adapter, confirm it supports data transfer (not just charging)

2. Check macOS version compatibility

3. Install HP Printer Drivers manually

If no direct driver is listed for your macOS version:

  • Download the HP Printer Drivers v5.1.1 for macOS from Apple’s support site
  • Open the .dmg file and run the installer
  • Restart your Mac after installation

4. Add the printer manually

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
  • Click the + button to add a printer
  • Select HP LaserJet P1005 from the list
  • If it doesn’t appear, click Add Printer or Scanner > Default tab
  • Choose the printer and select HP LaserJet P1005 from the Use dropdown
  • Click Add

5. If the printer still doesn’t appear

  • Open System Information > USB and check if the printer is listed
  • If not, try a different USB cable or port
  • If listed but not detected in Printers & Scanners, reset the printing system:
    • Right-click in the Printers list > Select Reset printing system
    • Re-add the printer using the steps above

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps. If it still refuses to connect, we can explore alternate driver packages or deeper USB diagnostics. You’ve done everything right by staying observant—I’ll be here to guide you further.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
