Hi there. I have been experiencing the same issue with all of the HP printers I have purchased. I have a MacBook Pro 2019. I will set up my printer on my network, and it will show up in the Printers and Scanners area when I am selecting a device to add on my computer. It will connect immediately and print flawlessly. A few days later, with no noticeable changes to the equipment (did not turn off either device, neither were disconnected from my network, the printer still shows up in my computer's devices), it will not print. The icon for the printer will say "idle, last used [insert date here], and no progress will be made on my printing job. It will just remain idle. The printer is still on, connected to the network, but it will not recognize the job I am trying to print or my computer will not recognize that the printer is active. Even if I connect my printer to my computer via USB, they still do not recognize each other. I will delete the printer from my computer's devices and try to set it up as new. But when I do that, the printer no longer shows up when I click to add a new printer. I try to search for it by entering the printer's IP address but my computer will not recognize a printer at that IP address. The only thing I have found that works is to delete all the network information off my printer, restart it, enter it all back in, and set it up from scratch with the HP website, downloading the drivers and everything again. This is SO annoying and wastes SO much time. This is the fifth time I am doing this with my newest HP printer. Now I can't even get it to set up wirelessly; I have to have the USB connected.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it my computer or is it the HP printers? Are Macs and HP printers technically incompatible? Please help.... Thank you!

Hi @ASTRAKELE
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. This looks like intermittent connectivity issue between the printer and the MAC.
- How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
- Make sure the printer and the MAC are connected to the same wireless network.
- This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. So, the MAC should be on the 2.4GHz network.
- If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
- Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.
- The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold the option key on your keyboard and click the WiFi icon to get detailed information.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on MAC
Check the connectivity by performing a PING test
- Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
- On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
- Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
- Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost
- Note: There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
