Hi @slbsmith103,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how overwhelming this feels when technology doesn’t cooperate; it can make you want to pull your hair out. Let’s take a deep breath and fix this together. Your HP DeskJet 4100e and Chromebook can absolutely work in harmony without buying anything new. Here’s the step-by-step solution:

Why This Happens

Chromebooks don’t use traditional printer drivers like Windows or Mac. Instead, they rely on network printing or the HP App. If the printer shows up but says “not configured,” it means the setup isn’t complete.

Step 1: Prepare Your Printer

  1. Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode
On your printer, press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 3 seconds until the power light blinks. This puts the printer in setup mode.

Step 2: Connect Printer to Wi-Fi

Step 3: Add Printer to Chromebook

  1. On your Chromebook:
    • Click the time in the bottom-right corner.
    • Go to Settings → Advanced → Printing → Printers.
    • Under “Available printers,” select your HP printer and click Add.
    • If it doesn’t appear, click Add manually and enter the printer’s IP address (found on the printer’s info page by pressing the Information button).

Step 4: Print Using Chrome

  • Open your document → Press Ctrl + P → Under “Destination,” select your HP printer → Print.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
