Getting driver errors on unsupported printer. Tried hooking directly to an eero on the 2nd port and connecting  the printer  and eero through a  switch or seeing it on my wifi net, but cannot add through the print center using  a MacBook Air running fully updated Tahoe.

I  cannot remove the “remembered” printer  held in the print center

I had it working before????? Can I still get drivers somewhere? or do something else?

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my question.  I did figure it out using about the same answers you provided. The main  issue being that APPLE only supports this printer (and several other APS ) only  if the HP software is loaded to and from an  I-phone or I-pad. The app store doesn’t even have a version that works on the Macbook or Macbook Air.

I wanted to keep the old printer because I can work on it. I worked for HP in Southern California and transferred here to Colorado 34 years ago. I was a senior customer engineer for HP and continued on in Colorado,  finishing my career and retiring from Lockheed-Martin after working for HP for around 27 years .

Hi @oh-be-one

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you're using a MacBook Air running macOS Tahoe with an older HP printer, the issue may be related to macOS retaining an old printer configuration or the compatible driver. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Reset the Printing System

This removes all saved printers and clears any corrupted print queues.

  • Open System Settings (or System Preferences).
  • Go to Printers & Scanners.
  • In the printer list, Control-click (or right-click) in the blank area of the printer list.
  • Select Reset Printing System.
  • Enter your Mac administrator password if prompted.
  • Restart your Mac.

Restart Your Network Devices

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Restart the Eero router and any network switch being used.
  • Wait until the network is fully online.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Verify the Printer Is Connected to the Network

  • Print a Network Configuration or Wireless Test Report from the printer (if supported).
  • Confirm the printer has a valid IP address.
  • On your Mac, open Safari and enter the printer's IP address (for example, http://192.168.1.xxx).
  • If the printer's Embedded Web Server opens, the printer is successfully connected to the network.

Add the Printer Manually

  • Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.
  • If the printer does not appear under Default, select the IP tab.
  • Enter the printer's IP address.
  • For Protocol, choose HP Jetdirect - Socket (if available).
  • try the following options in order:
  • AirPrint
  • Secure AirPrint
  • Generic PCL Printer
  • Generic PostScript Printer (if supported by your printer)
  • Click Add.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persistsand please share me the picture of the error displayed.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
