Due to the Ripple20 and various other vulnerabilities I'm trying to update the firmware to my color laserjet pro m283cdw.  Checking through the control panel it states that it the date of the current firmware is 20200326.  The newest on the website for fixing the Ripple20 vulnerability is 20200603 https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06640149.  When I use the control panel to update it states that there are no new updates.  I've also tried using the Android app(s) to install the firmware but the instructions I've found on this don't appear to be correct....there is no advanced then advanced settings in the app.  I do not own a windows or mac machine to install the firmware.  are there any other options?  is there someway i can get the firmware on a USB stick and update it that way?  I'm about to pitch the printer and get a Brother printer.

You can extract firmware file from .exe using 7zip software on a computer. Save firmware file .ful2 on a USB drive insert USB in the printer and when recognized the firmware icon will appear on printers front panel. You can download firmware .exe from HP.com for Windows.

I'm trying to do the same thing but don't see any .ful2 file in the unzipped .exe.  is it only in one windows version of the .exe?

Sorry, I provided you wrong information. That model doesn't have .ful2 firmware that can be uploaded from the front USB panel.

Make sure you have turned ON web services on your device, it will not automatically update itself without web services.

If nothing helps you will need to get a WIN computer and run an .exe

When I use the touch panel it says there are no new updates but Web services are clearly enabled....You are saying that I have to use a Win computer?  this is stupid.
