I have a HP Office jet Pro 8025. and lock out ink message won't let me use printer. I don't know the previous owner. I've reset printer factor settings and ink still has me locked out.

Hi @Albert_OJP8025 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the "lock out ink" message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 is likely due to the printer being enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program by the previous owner. HP Instant Ink is a subscription service that links specific ink cartridges to a particular printer and account. If the printer is still enrolled under the previous owner's account, you won't be able to use the Instant Ink cartridges or the printer until it's unenrolled.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Enrollment Status:

  • Visit the HP Instant Ink website: Go to HP Instant Ink and log in or create a new account.
  • Check Enrollment Status: If you have the printer's Serial Number, you can check if it’s enrolled under any account. You might need to contact HP Support for further details.

2. Use Standard Cartridges:

  • If you're unable to contact the previous owner or have the printer removed from the Instant Ink program, try using standard, non-Instant Ink HP cartridges. These cartridges are not locked to a particular account or printer and should work if the printer is no longer enrolled in Instant Ink.

3. Factory Reset Confirmation:

  • You've mentioned performing a factory reset, but make sure it's a full reset. Sometimes, a partial reset may not remove all settings. A full factory reset will revert all settings to their defaults.

4. Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure the printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve issues related to printer restrictions and connectivity.

5. Reset the Printer Again:

  • If you haven’t already, perform another full factory reset. This process may vary slightly, but generally, you can reset by navigating to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults on the printer control panel. Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
