I downloaded the file for HP Deskjet F4180 and extracted  it . However the printer device connected to a USB port is still not recognized and it does not show as available. When I try printing, it does not do anything.  Any help ?

Hi @rocket276

1. Check the USB cable connection in the back printer connector and also in the notebook PC.

2. Also try with another USB Cable, because they sometimes fail.

3. And then run again the software to install and follow the steps until you complete the installation process.

Thanks for your replies.

I tried a new USB cable and the device HP Deskjet F4180 is still not detected. However, when I connect the USB cable to the printer, there is a small window that pops up on my screen indicating that a new device is connected and that to complete the installation  I need to update drivers. Also when I try to install the installation software for the printer, there is an error message that installation could not be finished due to compatibility between Windows version. I tried to run the compatibility program to fix this issue but nothing happens.  My computer is running Windows 10  and the file I downloaded indicates Win 10 exe.  Any idea ?

Might be it's time to buy a new printer .

Thanks for your reply @rocket276

Ok, so then try to install with Compatibility Options from Windows.

1.  Right click the file you have downloaded Win10.exe select Properties and look for tab Compatibility

2.  In that window check the Box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for"  and select Windows Vista

3. Also check the option "Run this program as an administrator"

4.  Then click on Apply and OK buttons.

Run again the software to install the printer.

Thank you for your assistance. I tried all your suggestions without success. My computer still does not print. It detects an Hp eprint version as default and a HP Deskjet All In One printer that can only scan. Nowhere does it shows HP Deskjet F4180 nor  F4100 series.

No idea what to try next.
