LaserJet Enterprise M609
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have an m609 with two additional trays. We have trays 1, 3 and 4 configured as Plain A4 and tray 2 as A5 Card Stock. The printer will select the correct paper depending on the size of page printed, so far so good.

Since reinstalling Windows, however, I cannot seem to persuade the printer to take plain A4 from tray 1 (Manual Feed) only when paper is present there. Currently we have to  manually specify the manual feed every time I want to print there. When we are in full flow, it's easy to overlook.

In Windows>Printing Preferences>Paper/Quality we have Paper source set to Automatically Select. Changing this to "Printer auto select" makes no difference. Setting it to Manual Feed will ignore the other paper trays and insist on Tray 1.

OS is Windows 10 64-bit.

Driver is HP Universal Printing PCL 6

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello,

Hope you are well, it is recommended to update paper settings on the printer itself, please use the printer panel and go to paper set up, so you can select each tray and configure it , depending the paper you load.

for tray 1 please select A4 - plain, tray 1 is intended to print manual media like envelopes or labels, but if you load A4 or letter, you may need to specify the paper setting.  Also if there are multiple trays with the same size and type of paper, machine will take paper from the other trays and then from tray 1.  On the printer driver preference, you can try creating a printing shortcut for tray 1 only when its required to use tray 1 , you can use the shortcut instead going thru the auto select of the default paper shortcut.
