@Chris91768, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e is no longer automatically printing double-sided (duplex) and instead prompts for manual steps, this may be due to a driver setting change or a Windows 11 update affecting the print configuration.

Here are steps to restore automatic duplex printing:

Step 1: Check Duplex Settings in Printer Preferences

  1. Press Windows + R, type control printers, and hit Enter.
  2. Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e printer > Printer Preferences.
  3. Go to the Printing Shortcuts or Layout tab (varies by driver).
  4. Look for Print on Both Sides (Duplex) and ensure it's set to Automatic.
  5. Click Apply and OK.

Step 2: Reinstall the Full Feature Driver

Sometimes Windows installs a basic driver that disables duplex features. Reinstalling the full driver can help:

Official HP® Support

  1. Disconnect the printer USB or remove it from Wi-Fi temporarily.
  2. Uninstall the printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  3. Restart your PC.
  4. Run the downloaded installer and follow the prompts to reconnect the printer.

Step 3: Enable Duplex in Print Dialog (Per App)

When printing from apps like Word or Chrome:

  1. Press Ctrl + P to open the print dialog.
  2. Click Printer Properties or Preferences.
  3. Enable Two-sided printing or Duplex.
  4. Confirm and print.
