HP 530 SMART TANK

Hi @kerwin3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for explaining the situation. When an HP Smart Tank 530 shows “Fill indicated tanks” after a factory reset, even though the tanks are full, it usually means the printer lost its ink level calibration during the reset. This is common because Smart Tank printers track ink levels digitally, not physically.

Here’s the fix:

Step 1: Confirm Ink Levels

  • Make sure all tanks (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) are filled to the correct line.
  • Use genuine HP ink bottles.

Step 2: Reset Ink Level Sensors

After a factory reset, you must re-enter ink levels manually:

  1. On the printer control panel:
    • Tap Setup (gear icon).
    • Go to Ink Levels > Reset Ink Levels.
  2. Select each color and confirm it is full.
  3. Save settings.

Step 3: Update Firmware

Step 4: Restart Printer

  • Power off, wait 30 seconds, then power on.
  • Check if the error clears.

Step 5: If Still Showing Error

  • Perform a second factory reset
    • Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  • Then repeat Reset Ink Levels.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
