my printer is idle can you help me get it working again

I am guessing the printer went to sleep and it cannot be woken up over a wi-fi connection.  Some routers can wake up a wi-fi printer and others cannot  My Canon photo printer needs to have the online button pressed.  My HP cm1415 is hardwired to the router and is easily woken up.

Possibly changing the port type

There is another possibility. Your printer may be connected using a WSD port instead of a TCP port. The WSD type of connection (or so I have read) is not able to do a "keep alive" function nor possibly wakeup a sleeping printer.

bring up windows printers and scanners, select the actual printer's name (not the scanner or pdf device) and select printer properties and the select ports.   I am guessing the printer is HP 8015

If the 8015 shows only WSD port then add a TCP port. TCP ports have the ability to maintain a signal or "keep alive" any device connected to it. After adding the TCP port it should look like the following, except for the IP address.

If (for example) 192.168.1.120 is the IP address of your printer then replace it with the hostname. The hostname can (usually) be found on an network status report but it is easier to just ask windows for the hostname. For example:

Put that hostname in the TCP port instead of the IP address.

For my cm1415 printer, it's hostname NPI40CB07.attlocal.net can be used to access the printer even if the IP address of the printer changes.
