Hi @Kwk3,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer prints test pages but not documents, it often indicates an issue with the communication between the printer and your computer or the print job itself. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Printer Status

  1. Ensure the printer is set as the default printer:
    • Windows: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners. Right-click your printer and select Set as Default Printer.
    • Mac: Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and check the default printer setting.
  2. Ensure the printer is online and not in "Use Printer Offline" mode.
  3. Clear any existing print queues:
    • Windows: Right-click the printer in the Printers & Scanners menu and select See what’s printing. Cancel any jobs stuck in the queue.
    • Mac: Open Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Open Print Queue to remove jobs.

Test Printing From Different Applications

  • Try printing from different applications (e.g., Word, PDF viewer, or a browser).
  • If one application fails but others work, the issue is likely with the application or file format.

Check Printer Drivers

  1. Update or reinstall the printer driver:
    • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest driver for your printer model.
  2. Ensure you’ve selected the correct printer driver during setup, especially if multiple HP printers are listed.

Verify Printer Connection

  • If connected via USB, ensure the cable is secure and functioning.
  • If connected wirelessly:
    • Confirm the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
    • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to verify its status.

Try Printing a Different Document

  • Ensure the document is not corrupted:
    • Copy the content into a new file and try printing again.
    • Check if the file contains unsupported elements (like specific fonts or images).

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows. It will diagnose and fix common printing issues.

Check Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware may cause issues. Update the printer’s firmware through the HP Smart app or the printer’s embedded web server.

Restart Devices

  1. Restart your computer, printer, and router.
  2. Retry printing your document after the restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
