I understand your HP 8134 printer is working normally for other devices, but your wife’s Dell laptop won’t print even though the software shows everything is okay. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot the connection.

Check printer connection
Make sure the printer is on the same network as your wife’s laptop if using Wi-Fi.
If using USB, confirm the cable is securely connected to both the laptop and the printer.

Restart devices
Turn off the printer and the laptop, then turn them back on.
This can refresh network or driver connections that may be stuck.

Verify printer selection
In Word or the HP app, make sure the correct printer (HP 8134) is selected.
Sometimes Windows defaults to “Microsoft Print to PDF” or another printer.

Clear print queue
Open Devices and Printers, right-click the HP 8134, and select See what’s printing.
Cancel any stuck jobs that could be blocking new print jobs.

Check Windows printer status
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners and confirm the printer shows as “Ready”.
If it shows offline or unavailable, click Troubleshoot to let Windows attempt a fix.

Restart the print spooler service
Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Find Print Spooler, right-click it, select Restart, and try printing again.

Update or reinstall drivers
Even if software says everything is okay, the driver may be corrupted.
Download the latest HP 8134 driver from HP’s website and install it on the laptop.

Test with another application
Try printing from Notepad or a PDF to rule out an issue specific to Word or the HP app.

Following these steps usually resolves communication issues between a single computer and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. These are all steps I've already tried unfortunately. The weird thing is that my wife's computer will talk to everything but the printer and everything else talks to the printer fine. Its like its a software fault on the computer but I've tried updating the drivers ect but it still doesn't talk to the printer.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 8134 prints correctly from other devices, but your wife’s Dell laptop cannot communicate with the printer even though the software shows everything is fine. Let’s go through a few deeper checks to isolate what could be blocking printing from that one computer.

Remove and re-add the printer completely
Go to Settings > Printers & Scanners and remove the HP 8134.
Restart the laptop, then add the printer again using “Add device.”

Set the printer as default
In Printers & Scanners, select the HP 8134 and choose Set as default.
Windows sometimes sends jobs nowhere if no default printer is set.

Disable “Use Printer Offline”
Open Devices and Printers, right-click the HP 8134, and select See what’s printing.
From the Printer menu, make sure “Use Printer Offline” is unchecked.

Check firewall or antivirus blocking
Temporarily disable third-party antivirus or firewall software on the Dell laptop.
Security software can block printer communication even when drivers are installed.

Confirm network profile is Private
Go to Settings > Network & Internet and ensure the Wi-Fi network is set to Private.
Public networks restrict device discovery and printing.

Verify printer port configuration
In Devices and Printers, right-click the HP 8134 > Printer properties > Ports.
Make sure the correct TCP/IP or WSD port is selected and matches the printer’s IP address.

Try printing via IP address
Add the printer using its IP address instead of automatic discovery.
This bypasses Windows discovery issues that affect only one computer.

Test with a new Windows user profile
Create a new local user account on the Dell laptop and try printing from there.
If it works, the issue is tied to the original user profile.

Check Windows updates and optional drivers
Go to Windows Update and install all optional updates, especially driver updates.
Missing Windows components can cause silent print failures.

I hope this helps.
