Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have tried to install my printer with Windows software but it installs not as a printer but as a device.  I need drivers to install in Windows 10.

Welcome to the HP Support Community

HP Deskjet 9650 Printer does not have drivers for Windows 10.

I suggest you in the printer using Windows Built-in Print Driver.

I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879 to install using Windows Built-in Print Driver.

Try to print.

Hi Raj, I appreciate the instructions on how to install my printer. What I actually did was install the series 9800 drivers. The only problem I am having now is the print quality is very poor. Is there a photo software download that I can install?  Thanks

Is the print quality good while making a copy?

If you are facing the same issue while making a copy, follow the below steps to clean the cartridges.

You can clean the print cartridges from the Toolbox or the printer driver.

1 Load plain paper into the input tray (see “Loading media in the input tray”).

2 Open the Toolbox: Click Start, point to Programs, hp deskjet 9600 series, and then click hp deskjet 9600 series Toolbox. -OrOpen the printer driver (see “Changing default print settings”).

3 Click the Printer Services tab (Toolbox) or Services tab (printer driver).

4 Click Clean Print Cartridges and follow the onscreen instructions.

5 If you still find a problem in the printout, repeat this cleaning process.

If the issue persists, try using a different cartridge and check if it works.

Hi Raj, I tried your suggestion.  But I am trying to install a driver for the HP 9650, which is still a perfectly functional printer.  But earlier this year the 9650 disappeared from the list of HP drivers in the Windows printer install panel.  Any thoughts on how I can get my 9650 working again under WIndows 10?  Thanks.
