Just bought a new HP Laser Jet Pro MFP-3101 fdw and it will not print Corel Word Pefect docs vertically. I have checked all the settings and cannot figure it out. Any advice would be appreciated.

Corel WP is an old word processing program but was has been used with each of our HP Laser Jet printers before. All the docs need to be accessible and printable or this printer is of no use.

Hi @GandFChm,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there may be a compatibility issue between the new HP LaserJet Pro MFP-3101 fdw and Corel WordPerfect. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check the Paper Orientation in Print Settings:

  • Open the document in Corel WordPerfect.
  • Go to File > Print.
  • In the print dialog box, look for a setting related to Paper Orientation (usually under the Properties or Setup button next to your printer).
  • Ensure Portrait mode is selected and not Landscape.

Printer Driver Compatibility:

  • Sometimes new printers may have compatibility issues with older software like WordPerfect. Check if there's a driver update for your printer.
  • Visit the HP website and download the latest driver for your model. Ensure you select the correct driver for your operating system.

Adjust Printer Settings from Windows Control Panel:

  • Open the Control Panel.
  • Go to Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your HP LaserJet Pro MFP-3101 fdw and select Printing Preferences.
  • Make sure the paper orientation is set to Portrait in the preferences for the printer.

Test with Other Programs:

  • Try printing the same document from another program (like Microsoft Word) to check if the problem is specific to WordPerfect.

Try an Alternative Printing Method:

  • Export the Corel WordPerfect document as a PDF (or other formats) and then try printing the PDF using a different program (like Adobe Reader).
    • Go to File > Publish to PDF and save the document as a PDF.
    • Open the PDF and attempt to print it with the correct orientation.

Use Compatibility Mode (if on Windows):

  • Right-click on the Corel WordPerfect shortcut and choose Properties.
  • Go to the Compatibility tab.
  • Try running WordPerfect in Compatibility Mode for an earlier version of Windows if you're using a more recent version.

Check Printer Firmware:

  • Sometimes the firmware in the printer may need an update to fix bugs. Check the printer settings or the HP website for any available firmware updates for the HP LaserJet Pro MFP-3101 fdw.

By working through these steps, you should be able to isolate the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for responding.
I have tried all except for the driver or pdf ones on your list.
Not sure about making it a pdf since then I would not be able to update the doc -- esp Christmas label lists.
When going to HP website there are numerous driver options, which should I choose?

Hi @GandFChm,

Thank you for your response,

If your HP printer is printing horizontally on Corel WordPerfect documents, it could be a driver issue or a problem with the print settings. Since you've already tried other troubleshooting steps, updating or reinstalling the printer driver might help.

Here’s what you should do.

Identify Your Printer Model: Check the exact model number of your HP printer. You can find this on the printer itself or in the printer settings on your computer.

Visit HP’s Support Website:

  • Go to the HP Support website.
  • Enter your printer model number in the search box and select your specific printer from the results.

Choose the Right Driver:

  • Once on your printer’s support page, navigate to the Drivers & Downloads section.
  • Select your operating system and version from the dropdown menus.
  • Download the latest driver available for your OS. Typically, the most recent driver should be compatible with your printer.

Install the Driver:

  • Run the downloaded driver file and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
  • Restart your computer and printer after installation to ensure the changes take effect.

Check Print Settings:

  • Open Corel WordPerfect and go to File > Print.
  • Make sure the print settings are configured correctly. Check options like Page Orientation and Scaling

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Okay - way too complicated for me I guess.
I do not grasp some of the instructions like "2. Click Start, Run. In the Open text box, type:"    I have a Restart button but no Start.

Dare I go about deleting things when I do not understand some of these instructions?
