after I replaced the black cartridge in my 3830 the quality reverted from draft to 'normal'
I have tried each and every avenue through settings and when I set it to draft and go back to check it has reverted to 'normal'
I want fast prints

Hello, @esmec
This looks like a driver issue with the printer. Let's try the steps listed below to perform a clean install of the printer drivers:
· First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
· Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
· Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
· Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
· Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
· Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
· Restart your computer.
· Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL61240/mp-147826-1/OJ3830_Full_WebPack_1119.exe to install the software.
· Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Now, try changing the normal mode to the draft mode in the printing preference as suggested in my above post and check.
Let me know how that goes!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @esmec – Hope you are well 🙂
Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!
I understand that you are facing issues while printing in draft mode. To fix this issue, you need to make sure that your printing preferences under the actual printer and the program you are using are set to "draft". Follow the steps below:
- Go to Control panel – Devices and printers.
- Right-click on Officejet 3830 and select “Printing preferences”.
- Under the Paper/Quality tab, change the quality to the "Draft" mode and save the settings.
- Now, try and print to check the issue resolution.
Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
Good luck 🙂
