I have a new computer, but old photosmart printer/scanner. I can't find drivers for the HP photosmart C4400...anyone have any ideas?

For older printers like the HP Photosmart C4400, HP may not provide updated drivers for newer operating systems, but there are a few ways to try getting it working.

 

Steps to Try:

HP Universal Print Driver:

  • HP provides a Universal Print Driver that may work for your Photosmart C4400. You can download it from the HP support page.
  • Look for the "Universal Print Driver" and install it. Follow the prompts to add your printer.

Check Windows Built-in Drivers:

  • Windows may automatically install built-in drivers for older printers.
  • Connect your printer to the computer via USB and let Windows search for and install a compatible driver.
  • You can check by going to:
    • Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners > Add a printer or scanner.

Use Windows Update:

  • If the driver doesn’t install automatically, you can try installing drivers through Windows Update.
  • Go to Device Manager, find the printer, right-click, and select Update driver.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose issues and automatically install the necessary drivers.

Compatibility Mode (if available):

  • Download the driver for an older version of Windows (like Windows 7 or 😎 from HP's website.
  • Install the driver in compatibility mode by:
    • Right-clicking the setup file, selecting Properties > Compatibility.
    • Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select an older version of Windows.
