I just purchased a HP9125e and once I selected English and United States, I received an event code:CC.07.52.OB - what does that mean?

Hi @DJ1036,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The event code CC.07.52.OB on your HP OfficeJet 9125e typically indicates a critical system or setup error that occurs during the initial configuration phase. This often happens if the printer firmware or region settings fail to initialize correctly after language and country selection.

What It Means

  • The printer encountered an internal configuration issue during setup.
  • It’s not related to ink or paper; it’s usually a firmware or activation error.

How to Fix It

  1. Restart the Printer
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord for 60 seconds.
    • Plug it back in and turn it on.

  2. Check Firmware
  3. Reset the Printer
    • If the error persists, perform a Semi-Full Reset
      • Power off the printer.
      • Hold # and 3 while powering on (for some models, it’s # and 6).
      • Release when the display shows Resetting.

  4. Complete Setup via HP app

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello,

Understood. I’ll explain this clearly and accurately, because that event code is not user error, and it appears very early in first-time setup, exactly where you described.

What Event Code: CC.07.52.OB means

This code is an HP firmware / setup initialization failure.

Broken down in plain terms:

  • CC → Cloud / configuration component

  • 07.52 → Regionalization + language provisioning stage

  • OB → Out-of-box (first-boot) process

👉 In short:
The printer failed while applying language/region settings during first-time setup.

This happens before Wi-Fi, HP+ activation, or ink validation fully completes.

Why this happens (common causes)

I see this most often on new “e” models (like the 9125e) when:

  1. Firmware shipped incomplete or corrupted

  2. Printer tried to contact HP cloud but failed mid-handshake

  3. Temporary network issue during first boot

  4. Internal NVRAM state didn’t commit after region selection

This is not caused by:

  • Wrong country choice

  • Wrong language

  • Ink cartridges

  • User setup steps

First thing to try (safe recovery)

Do this exactly in order.

Step 1 – Power reset

  1. Power OFF the printer

  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer

  3. Wait 60 seconds

  4. Plug back in

  5. Power ON

If the error returns immediately → continue.

Step 2 – Factory reset (critical)

On the printer touchscreen:

  1. Power ON

  2. Press and hold Back (←) + Cancel (X) together

  3. Hold for 10 seconds

  4. Release

This clears:

  • Failed region config

  • Cloud provisioning state

  • Cached setup data

After reset, the printer should restart and ask for language again.

If the error comes back again

At that point, we are no longer troubleshooting — we are confirming a firmware defect.

Important reality (mentor-level honesty)

For HP “e” series printers:

  • Firmware cannot be manually reflashed by end users

  • There is no USB recovery image

  • There is no offline installer

If CC.07.52.OB repeats after a factory reset, the unit is considered DOA (Dead on Arrival).

What HP will do (and should do)

Because this occurred:

  • During initial out-of-box setup

  • Before the printer was usable

➡️ HP’s only supported resolution is replacement, not repair.

If you are within the retailer return window:

  • Return/exchange immediately (fastest path)

If past retailer window:

  • Contact HP Support → they will authorize a replacement unit
