non-hp chip detected.  current firmware is the latest MCP2CN2506AR (2506A).  When launching the firmware updater for  OJP6970_2247A.dmg (to downgrade it to 2247A as suggested in various google threads), it is able to find my printer but when clicking "continue" got stuck with "Cannot update the device.  This Firmware Updater does not contain upgrades for your device."  Is it is because the Updater is connected to hp's ftp site to get that particular firmware version 2247A and the version is no longer there.   I also tried to restore to factory but the firmware remain at 2506A.

I understand your printer is showing a “non-HP chip detected” message and you’re trying to downgrade the firmware to an earlier version. I’d like to clarify how this works from HP’s side.

HP does not support downgrading printer firmware. Once a printer is updated to a newer firmware version, it is designed to prevent installation of older firmware. Factory resets only restore settings and do not change the firmware version.

Because of this:

Firmware rollback to an earlier version is not supported or provided by HP.

The firmware updater will stop with a message stating that it does not contain upgrades for the device if the installed version is newer.

This behavior is expected and is not caused by missing files or internet access.

To continue using the printer normally, the supported option is to use genuine HP cartridges that are compatible with the currently installed firmware.

I hope this helps.

So HP essentially just removed a function that my printer had at time of sale...   Sounds like a class action suite waiting to happen.
