I have weird problem. In paper selection, I see numbers instead of the paper type. It happens from all my laptops. The printer is Smart Tank 725.

Hi @EnergoAudit,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the screenshots. I can see the issue clearly. When the Paper Type dropdown shows numeric codes like 2 1077 0000 0 600x600 instead of names such as Plain Paper or Photo Paper, it means the printer driver is not mapping the paper type correctly. This usually happens when the printer is using a generic driver or the driver installation is incomplete.

Solution for Smart Tank 725 Series

1. Check Driver Type

  • On your Windows PC:
    • Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Right-click your printer → Printer Properties → About.
    • If you see a Generic PCL or Class Driver, that’s the cause.

2. Install HP Full Feature Driver

3. Remove Old Printer Entries

  • Go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners.
  • Remove all entries for this printer.
  • Re-add the printer after installing the correct driver.

4. Update HP App

5. Optional: Reset Printing System

  • If the issue persists:
    • Remove all printers from Printers & Scanners.
    • Restart your PC.

Reinstall the HP driver and reconnect the printer through the HP App.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
