HP officejet 8040 all in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought this printer used and would like to know if I will be able to gain any functionality out of it.  My issues are exactly the same as the posted comments I have copied and pasted below:

So I performed a Factory reset and now the printer wants to be activated [again] except Neat has retired the Officejet 8040 and no longer offers support.

I can't even configure the Network settings or setup Web services and the printer will not print until it is able to connect to the internet to check the Instant ink status.  The printer is connected to the Network.  I even connected it with an ethernet cable and everything appears to be fine except it is not connected, and will not connect, to the internet.

So frustrating.    Is there anyway to remove or uninstall the Neat function altogether from the printer?

Hi @cp84,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet 8040 All In One. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • Is the blue light solid on the printer?
  • When was the last time the printer worked fine?

While you respond to that, let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware once and check:

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Please follow the steps mentioned in this document: HP Printers - Turning Off Web Services

If the issue still persists, I'm sending out a private message to assist you with the next course of action.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it or simply click on this link.
