Officejet Pro L7500 printer suddenly won't print from PC. Copies OK. Power cord fell out of modem yesterday - replugged. Didn't try printing until today. Went through all troubleshooting programs I could find. Once it said a cord was out or broken. Checked all connections. Once it said driver needed updating - then said it didn't need. I plugged and unplugged printer power cord and wall outlet per instructions. Printer and devices windows indicate the printer is ready to go.
This seems to happen every 6 to 8 weeks. The last time the problem was the "printer wasn't the PDF default printer." which the troubleshooter fixed. No luck this time. It is marked as the default printer.
The printer is a few years old & I don't know where the installation disk is. I don't want to un- then re-install, because software from HP might not be available anymore. (This happened to a camera I had; no disk, & no more manufacturer support - too old.)
Something happens every few weeks - always something different. I'm running Windows 10. Now that I think about it, I didn't have this problem on 7, only since July '16 when 10 downloaded. Possible connection?
I'm at my wits end!

Hi @auntijoan,
Thanks taking an interest in the HP forums. A very good day to you. 🙂 I understand that you require assistance with printing issues with your HP printer that prints only in blue. It will be a genuine pleasure to assist you.
Stupendous description and spectacular analysis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 . You are a valued HP customer and it is a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this?
- Did you check for the full feature software on the HP support site?
- Did you try to run the print and scan doctor to check if the issue gets resolved?
For now please try these steps. If it copies fine, then the issue could be software related.
Please perform a complete uninstallation of the printer by following these steps.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
Then reinstall the full feature software from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-l7500-all-in-one-printer-... Please select the correct operating system if prompted.
This should do the trick for you. Please keep me informed, I will keep a watch for your reply.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

Dear David - Thank you for your rapid response! Please pardon me for not getting back to you sooner.
First, though, I want to make sure we're on the same page - the problem is NOT that my printer only prints in blue - it won't print AT ALL.
Next, I did already install Scan Doctor, and ran it, and installed the full-feature program. For some reason, I only had part of it installed. I ran the Windows 10 troubleshooter. I received various responses at different times, some of which said there would be an auto-fix, but nothing was fixed.
Then, opening Devices, I suddenly found 3 printer icons. One just a picture, the next had "(2)" next to it, and one checked as "Default." There's only one printer, so I should be able to delete or uninstall two of them, right? But, which ones? Should the "Default" be changed or deleted?
Then, I said I had checked all connections - electrical connections-for looseness. I neglected to pull the cord from the PC tower to the printer. (I do not have WIFI, so this is a direct connect, I guess.) So that makes it the "USB Connection" method, I assume. My PC connects directly to the cable company modem, but the printer does not This is the set up I've had for months. Is there a possible source of the problem here?
And, this happens every couple of months - no printing ability for no apparent reason. I fiddle around with the troubleshooters, not really knowing what I'm doing, and, voila! things work again. Not this time. What setting could be changing by itself?
Lastly, it seems to be VERY important in what order things are plugged and unplugged, both electrical and internet-wise. What order are things to be done? I have one Owner's Manual that came with the printer, but it's really kind of general on that point. I always thought there might be other directions that were missing from the box! There's a lot on how to set up the fax function, for example, but not whether to place the item to be faxed right side up or down when using the feeder! I've sent plenty of 3 page blank faxes! (I've since figured it out...)
In short, I have not yet tried your suggestions of uninstalling and reinstalling everything, although at this point, that sounds like the most logical thing to do. I want to be sure we are (1) both talking about the same problem, (2) I know the proper order to do the plugging (And, do I have to reinstall the whole program again? It seemed to take forever - there was an icon of a spinning disc on my desktop page for a very long time. I didn't know if something was stuck or hung-up.) and (3) why are there so many icons on my device page and what should I do about that, or will uninstalling and reinstalling the printer take care of that problem?
I just tried printing something, before sending this letter. The "Ink Level" note that always appears in the lower right corner, now says it can't determine levels at this time. Still not communicating.
I will await your further response before I do anything more.
Thank you very much again!

Another thing - I looked at documents in the queue not printed. One is listed as "deleting" (Showed that for 5 days), pages 12/3, size 563KB/563KB, port DOT4-001. Other documents never show this much. For instance my test this AM says: 1 page, 414KB, no port listed.
Does this help with the problem?

Well, you've done it! I got sort of lost in some of the instructions, like the "printiu.exe - I didn't see any of the tabs you referred to, but it did the trick!
I just uninstalled everything I could find, and spent some time getting everything back in again.
And I guess I plugged things back together in the proper order!! I located my original instruction guide, finally, and the original installation disc - but it only went as far as Vista, so I didn't even want to try using it! I used your link to the HP download.
I did several test prints - there's one screen missing that I used to see, but who cares? It works! And, it still copies. I haven't tried scanning, but I've only used that once anyway, so I think I'm home free!!!
Thank you ever so much, for both your excellent instructions, and infinite patience.
Hope you get a raise...!
