I need someone to please confirm that any or all of Officejet Pro 8122e, 8132e, 9132e (probably running HP Smart Universal Print Driver) will both print and scan to a Microsoft Surface fitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM processor.

Hi @jhd-99,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To determine whether HP OfficeJet Pro 8122e, 8132e, or 9132e printers can print and scan using a Microsoft Surface fitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM processor running Windows 11 ARM64, there are several considerations to keep in mind:
1. Driver and Software Compatibility
HP Smart Universal Print Driver:
- The HP Smart Universal Print Driver (UPD) is designed to work with a broad range of HP printers. However, its compatibility with Windows 11 ARM64 is not always explicitly guaranteed. The HP Smart Universal Print Driver typically supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 on x86 and x64 platforms.
HP Smart App:
- The HP Smart app (previously known as HP Print and Scan Doctor) is often the best tool for managing HP printers on modern operating systems. Check if the HP Smart app is available for ARM64 and can support the specific printer models in question.
2. Printer Models Compatibility
HP OfficeJet Pro 8122e, 8132e, 9132e:
- Printing: Generally, these models should be able to print from Windows 11 ARM64, provided the correct driver is installed. HP provides drivers for many of its printers through Windows Update, so ensure that Windows Update is run on the ARM64 device to find and install any compatible drivers.
Scanning:
- Scanning might be more complex due to the lack of native ARM64 driver support. If the HP Smart app or any other HP scanning software is available for ARM64, it should handle scanning functions. If not, scanning might be limited or require alternative solutions.
3. Testing and Verification
Check for Updated Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for the specific printer model to check for any ARM64-compatible drivers or software updates.
Install the HP Smart App:
- Download and install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store on your Surface device. The app’s functionality should be tested to confirm whether it supports both printing and scanning for your printer models.
Check Windows Compatibility:
- Ensure that your Windows 11 ARM64 device is up-to-date with the latest updates and patches from Microsoft. Sometimes compatibility issues are resolved with OS updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel571
The issue is that there is no PnP in Windows11 ARM64 so no drivers for printers can be installed. Most HP printers look for that file and stop the install because it does not exist. This is the issue and there does not seem to be any way around it. The microsoft IPP universal printer driver does not allow the full functionality of HP printers (or others either) what we need is a way to install the correct HP Printer driver without using the non-existant PnP file.
If you find a way then please let everyone know.
Also all the fixes offered by microsoft & HP all seem to suggest the PlugPlay file exists - wrong.

You need to download and install the Smart Universal Printer driver. Supported printers listed here https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_6933917-6933962-16
ARM printer driver here https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/SUPD/SUPD-V4-ARM64-4.01.2.2972.exe

Thank you for your reply. I have already seen the list from HP of supposed compatible printers, but I need one that is available in the UK.
Maybe I'm just being naive, but I rather hoped that someone would have one of these printers and be able to say "yes, it will both print and scan". I need to recommend a printer for someone and I'm not putting my name to a recommendation that is full of "shoulds and maybes". I got to the point of almost believing the Smart Universal Printer driver will work and then had the realisation that it might print but not scan.
