Hi @th97430 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8610 is displaying an error message stating "old generation cartridge," there are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow to address the issue:

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Remove the black cartridge.
  • Check for any protective tapes or seals on the cartridge and remove them if present.
  • Reinstall the black cartridge securely.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Update Firmware:

  • Visit the HP official website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model.
  • If updates are available, follow the instructions to update the firmware.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Remove the black cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge.
  • Reinstall the cartridge and turn on the printer.

Check Cartridge Expiration Date:

  • Ensure that the black cartridge is not expired. Cartridges have an expiration date, and using an expired cartridge can cause issues.

Check for Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Make sure you are using a genuine HP cartridge and not a third-party or refilled cartridge. HP printers may not recognize or work well with non-HP cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-

Hi @Gaya1239,

Thank you for your reply.

But I have tried all of the 6 steps you have mentionned except the firmware updating. I have download the last one but cannot update my printer. Because when I select my printer on the list the update button still desactivated.

The black cartridge I use is not a HP guenine. But It was working good before I moved the printer. And all the other cartridges are from the same pack. Its like I have unplugged the printer, plugin it again and it doesn't work anymore.

Can you help more ?
