Setting up existing HP desktop and HP Laser Jet 1020, after disconnecting when i moved to another home.  Now, I can't get it to print.  In MSWord, when sending document to print, the paper DOES feed but DOES NOT print the text and also does not print a test page.  I reloaded the driver and the ink cartridge is new.

Hi @Jason_L-60201,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

Moving can sometimes lead to unexpected tech issues, especially when everything was working before. Let’s see what we can do to get your HP LaserJet 1020 printing again.

  • Are there any error messages or blinking lights on the printer when you try to print?
  • When you reinstalled the driver, did the printer show up correctly in your Devices list on the computer?
  • Is the printer connected via USB, and have you tried a different USB port or cable?

Let's try these steps.

Check Printer Status and Connections

  • Confirm the USB connection to the computer is secure, and if possible, try a different USB cable or port.
  • Verify that the printer is listed as “Ready” in the Devices and Printers settings, and ensure it’s set as the default printer.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s support website. This tool will help detect and fix any configuration or connection issues that might be affecting printing.

Reset the Printer and Restart the Computer

  • Power off the printer and unplug it for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your computer, then try printing a test page again to see if the reset resolved the issue.

Ensure Printer Driver Compatibility

  • Go to the Device Manager on your computer, expand “Printers,” and right-click on your HP LaserJet 1020. Select Update Driver and choose the “Search automatically” option to make sure it has the latest driver.
  • If the driver is already updated, uninstall it, then reinstall the driver from the HP support website to ensure compatibility.

Run a Windows Printer Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and select Printer. Run the troubleshooter, and it may detect any missing settings or issues preventing the text from printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
