I understand how important it is to get your HP Inspire 7900 series printer working with Windows XP, and I appreciate the effort you’ve already put into trying to locate the right driver. 

 

Let’s go through the options available for this setup.

 

Driver Availability for Windows XP

The HP Inspire 7900 series is a much newer printer family, while Windows XP is an older operating system that is no longer supported for new driver releases. Because of this, there are no dedicated XP drivers published for the Inspire 7900 series. The printer requires modern drivers that are only available for Windows 10 and later.

 

What You Can Try on Windows XP

 

Use the built‑in Windows XP driver (basic printing only)

  • Connect the printer via USB.
  • Windows XP may attempt to install a generic “HP DeskJet/InkJet” driver automatically.
  • This will allow basic printing but not advanced features like scanning or wireless setup.

 

Install a Universal Print Driver (UPD)

  • HP provides a Universal Print Driver that works with many LaserJet and OfficeJet models.
  • While not guaranteed for Inspire 7900, it can sometimes enable basic printing.

Alternative Setup

  • If you have access to a newer Windows system, install the full driver/software there and share the printer over the network.
  • Your XP machine can then connect to the shared printer for printing tasks.

 

Important Note

On Windows XP, you will only be able to achieve basic printing functions. Features such as scanning, wireless setup, and HP App integration will not work because they require newer operating systems.
