HP ENVY 5540 All-in-One Printer

Hello,

I can't print from my PC to my HP ENVY 5540 printer. But I can print from my mobile phone. How can I print in color from my PC?

Thanks

@Helene5540, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you can print from your mobile phone but not from your PC, the issue is likely with your PC's printer settings or driver. Here’s how to troubleshoot and fix it:

Check Printer Connection

  • Ensure your PC and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart both the PC and the printer.
  • Try printing a test page from the PC.

Set the Printer as Default

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on HP ENVY 5540 and select Set as default printer.

Check Color Printing Settings

  • Open the document you want to print.
  • Press Ctrl + P and click Printer Properties.
  • Go to the Paper/Quality or Color tab.
  • Ensure Color is selected instead of Grayscale or Black & White.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Go to Device Manager (Press Win + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Print queues, right-click HP ENVY 5540, and select Update driver.
  • If the issue persists, uninstall the printer from Control Panel > Devices and Printers, then reinstall it using HP Smart or from (HP Support).

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Download here).
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to fix printing issues.

Check Print Spooler Service

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
