Hi @Jerry352,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet 2800 series printer is showing a “Default” error message. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and clear the error.

Power reset the printer
Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord from the wall.
Wait 60 seconds, plug it directly into a wall outlet, and turn the printer back on.

Check the control panel lights and icons
Look for blinking lights or symbols (paper, ink, attention).
The word “Default” often appears when the printer cannot load its default settings.

Restore printer defaults
On the printer, press and hold the Cancel (X) and Black Copy buttons together for 5 seconds.
Release the buttons when the lights flash and allow the printer to restart.

Reset network settings
Press and hold the Cancel (X) and Wireless (📶) buttons together for 5 seconds.
This clears network-related errors that can trigger default configuration messages.

Check ink cartridges
Open the cartridge access door and make sure both cartridges are properly seated.
A cartridge recognition issue can cause the printer to stop with a default error.

Reinstall the printer using HP Smart
Remove the printer from HP Smart and add it again.
This re-applies correct default settings from the software side.

Print a test or configuration page
After the reset, try printing a test page from HP Smart.
If the printer prints, the error has been cleared.

I hope this helps.
