HP DESKJET 3050A

Hi all, I have been here for hours trying to sort my printer out. My printer and computer have worked together brilliantly for the past 5 years, however today, i tried to print and it didn't allow me, saying that the printer is basically an unkown device and my PC is missing the drivers. I spent an hour and half online with Windows who told me to do various things, none of which worked. It is still saying "the driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate manner. contact your hardware vendor"

An error code of 28 has been up previously too.

My printer is 5 years old, but I don't have the dosh to buy a new one and just want to get this sorted, so any help on this would be great.

Many thanks

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Riddle_Decipher, is at your service (Like a Genie, however, without magic powers) 😉

It seems like a recent update may have changed the system settings and caused the issue with the printer driver rendering it unstable, so all we need to do, is remove the printer using the root level technique (I'll show you how) and reinstall it using the HP website (I'll give you the link).

  • Press "Windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services - Go to "Print spooler" - Right-click and "Stop" the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type "spool" and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel - Programs and feature - Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel - Devices and printer - Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type - "c:/programdata" - Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.

Then, use this link to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it: Click here

Let me know how that pans out

I will have a colleague follow-up on this to ensure it's taken care off,

as I need to know if the issue has been resolved, to get proper sleep at night.

Hi Again

So i tried everything you suggested - it all seemed to be going well and then I got to the reinstallation of the the software and connecting via the wireless network and there was a problem under 'Network Printer Installation', it says, 'Unable to find connection/Network', even though the wireless is on, on the printer and showing an IP address, it is also the correct network shown. So it's all having to be connected through the USB and not the wireless again!

Also, under Networks and Printers shows my PC with a yellow triangle in front of it.

Please help.

Many thanks

@Jo-Mc

Thank you for responding,

I'm glad you've tried everything I've suggested as I have a few more steps to resolve this issue completely, once and for all:

If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.

   NOTE:

Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.

See the Frequently asked questions in this document for additional information, including how to scan using this driver.

FOR DETAILS & FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS, USE THIS LINK: Click here

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

Keep us posted,

(We shall troubleshoot as a team, fight till the end and emerge victorious)

Hi again

Went through it all - it was all going swimmingly and I thought we'd cracked it, but it is still not printing. The test pages just backed up and on my screen, it said the printer was offline, however, on my printer, it is saying online and wifi connected with the IP address floating across it.  I just don't understand why this has all happened? I have bee using it without error for several years. Please advise as to what to do next?

Many thanks
