HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw

My M182nw printer no longer can find or connect to our wireless network.  Nothing has changed regarding our wireless network.

I have tried doing the factory reset to restore defaults and go through the setup once again.  I have used the latest HP Smart software app on Windows 11, the latest Mac OS 14 and iOS 17 versions, with wifi and bluetooth enabled.  The app does not find my printer.

The wireless test indicates  wireless is on, but there is no IP or SSID associated with it.  I have tried switching from 2.4Ghz to 5 Ghz, and also using both with automatic detection.

Nothing works.  The printer is currently connected to a windows machine with a USB cable, which is the only way we can print.  However, when we first set up the printer when new a few years ago, we were able to go through the setup and have it connected to wireless, and be seen by all the HP smart apps.

Any suggestions?  I've tried essentially all suggestions on various HP support site threads.

Thanks.

Hi @PRSPlayerMD,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your HP Color LaserJet MFP M182nw is unable to connect to your wireless network, and the usual troubleshooting steps haven't worked, you can follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer’s Wireless Settings:

Wireless Network Test Report:

  • Print a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer’s control panel to check the status of the wireless connection.
  • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Print Network Configuration Page or Print Wireless Report.

Check Network Status:

  • Ensure that the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify that the printer's wireless is enabled and it is trying to connect to the correct network.

2. Verify Wi-Fi Network and Router:

  • Restart Router:
    • Restart your Wi-Fi router to refresh the network.
  • Check Network Settings:
    • Ensure the router's settings haven’t changed, such as SSID (network name) or password.
    • Confirm that the router is broadcasting on a compatible frequency (2.4 GHz is often more stable for devices like printers).

3. Reconnect Printer to Network:

  • Manual Connection:
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.
    • Select your network from the list and enter the password if prompted.
  • Use HP Smart App:
    • Open the HP Smart app on your device.
    • Ensure that your device is connected to the same network as the printer.
    • Go to Printers > Add Printer and follow the instructions to connect the printer to your network.

4. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Firmware Update:
    • Ensure the printer firmware is up to date by visiting the HP Support website.
    • Download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.

5. Check for Interference:

  • Minimize Interference:
    • Ensure there are no large metal objects, walls, or other electronic devices causing interference between your printer and the router.

Hi @PRSPlayerMD,

Please find the remaining steps below.

6. Reset Network Settings:

  • Reset Network Configuration:
    • On the printer, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.
    • After resetting, go through the wireless setup process again.

7. Use an Ethernet Cable:

  • Temporary Wired Connection:
    • Connect the printer to your router using an Ethernet cable to check if it can connect via a wired connection. This can help isolate whether the issue is with the Wi-Fi connection.

8. Verify Printer’s IP Address:

  • Check IP Address:
    • Print a configuration page or network summary from the printer to check the IP address.
    • Ensure the IP address is correct and matches your network's configuration.

9. Remove and Re-add Printer:

  • Remove and Re-add:
    • On your computer, remove any existing instances of the printer from Printers & Scanners or similar settings.
    • Re-add the printer using the HP Smart app or manually through Add Printer in your system’s settings.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot the connectivity issue with your HP Color LaserJet MFP M182nw.

If you’ve tried all the above steps and still cannot connect, contact HP Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
