Hi @JFountain63 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP DeskJet 3762 All-in-One Printer has an orange light flashing by the ink icons, it indicates there might be an issue with the ink cartridges. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility
Ensure that the cartridges you installed are indeed the correct ones for your printer. The HP DeskJet 3762 uses HP 305 ink cartridges. Double-check that you have the right model.
2. Proper Cartridge Installation
Remove the cartridges and reinstall them to ensure they are properly seated.
- Turn on the printer.
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Wait for the carriage to move to the center.
- Remove the cartridges and check for any protective tape that might still be on the cartridge's electrical contacts or nozzles. Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles.
- Reinsert the cartridges. Make sure they click into place securely.
3. Clean the Contacts
Ink cartridges and the printer’s ink cartridge holder have electrical contacts that need to be clean.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridges and in the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry for about 10 minutes.
- Reinstall the cartridges and close the ink cartridge access door.
4. Restart the Printer
Sometimes a simple restart can resolve the issue.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
5. Align the Cartridges
Your printer might require alignment after installing new cartridges.
- On the printer's control panel, look for an option to align the cartridges. This can usually be found in the settings menu.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment.
6. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues.
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP support website.
- Download and install any updates.
7. Use HP's Diagnostic Tools
HP provides diagnostic tools that can help identify and fix issues.
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP support website.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to troubleshoot and fix the problem.
8. Reset the Printer
If the above steps do not work, a full reset might help.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect it to the printer.
- Turn on the printer if it does not turn on automatically.
