Hi @sew_helen,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that you changed your modem/router. Reconnect the printer using the new network name and password.

For HP Deskjet 2540 / 2545 (Windows):

  1. Make sure the router and computer are on.

  2. Make sure the computer and printer are on the same wireless network.

  3. Load paper and make sure the printer is set up.

  4. Download and install the HP software from 123.hp.com/DJ2540.

  5. When the Connect window appears, stop there.

  6. Restore the printer’s wireless settings:

    • Turn on the printer.

    • If the wireless light is already blinking, continue the setup.

    • Press and hold Power.

    • While holding Power, press Start Copy Black twice, then Cancel three times.

    • Release Power.

    • The wireless light should blink.

  7. Return to the installer and click Continue.

  8. Choose Wireless - Make a wireless connection to the printer.

  9. Follow the on-screen steps:

    • Use HP Auto Wireless Connect (recommended), or

    • Use a temporary USB connection if prompted.

If you need the new Wi‑Fi password

You can find it:

  • On the router label, near the SSID or Wi‑Fi Password

  • On a Windows PC in Wi‑Fi settings

  • On macOS, using Passwords or Keychain Access

  • On Android, saved network settings.

If the printer does not reconnect

  • Restart the printer and computer.

  • Make sure the printer's wireless light is on.

  • Reconnect the printer using Wireless Setup Wizard or WPS, depending on your model.

  • If needed, restore Wi‑Fi setup mode and run setup again.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
