Hi @Crab1, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP DeskJet 4255e may have switched networks or encountered a connection conflict when adding another device. Try the following steps to reconnect your MacBook:
Restart Everything
- Restart the Printer – Turn it off, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
- Restart Your MacBook – A simple restart can refresh network settings.
- Restart Your Wi-Fi Router – If your printer is wireless, restarting your router can help.
Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi
If the printer was set up using Wi-Fi Direct or lost its network connection, you may need to reconnect it:
- Reset the printer's network settings:
- Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for about 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light blinks.
- Reconnect using HP Smart:
- Open HP Smart on your MacBook.
- Click Add Printer and follow the instructions to connect it to Wi-Fi.
Re-add the Printer to Mac
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Remove the printer by selecting it and clicking Remove (-).
- Click Add (+) and select your HP DeskJet 4255e from the list.
Check for Connection Conflicts
- If another device is using Wi-Fi Direct, your printer might disconnect from the main Wi-Fi. Make sure it stays connected to your home network.
- Ensure all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
