Microsoft Windows 11

This has likely been the most frustrating experience I have ever had trying to install a printer/MFP driver

Here are the facts:

1. PC is a Dell Optiplex 7070 running Windows 11 - pretty standard PC - the PC has the Norton AV/protection suite installed, but the results indicated below also occur when the Norton AV and firewall are DISABLED

2. Printer/MFP in HP Color LaserJet Pro M479fdw - again, pretty standard device

3. Downloaded (from HP Web site) and attempted to install "full driver pack" for the 479fdw version 48.6.4638_1 - this is the latest out there

4. Printer is connected wired - not wireless.... why that would matter, I am not sure, but including it here for completeness of information

5. I have tried to run the installation routine both automatic, and manual - both produce the same results

6. The installation routine is able to quickly identify the printer - and its associated IP address (xx.xx.xx.12) and the correct MAC address

7. After selecting the printer, the install process goes into a "Installing Network Device" process that essentially does nothing for about 5 minutes, before it tells me that it failed, with no further information

8. the submit error report and look for a solution bears no fruit - a solution cannot be found.

My last gasp effort will be to completely remove Norton, attempt to install the printer software package, and re-install Norton - assuming that the install works.

I have been working in IT for over 30 years, and this is one of the most frustrating scenarios I've ever run into.

Removed Norton, completely uninstalled previous failed attempt at installation of driver pack - no joy.

I don't see where I could upload it - but would a packet capture during two attempted installs be of help to anyone in assisting me track down this problem?
