@JohnG48, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're seeing a printer error message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 after a recent update, here are some steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Power Reset the Printer

  1. Turn the printer on, if it’s not already.
  2. With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait for 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  6. Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Update or Reinstall Firmware

Sometimes, a firmware update may not install correctly. You can manually reinstall the latest firmware:

  1. Visit the official HP firmware page for your printer:
HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 Firmware & Drivers
  2. Download the latest firmware update utility for your operating system.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the firmware.

Important: Do not turn off the printer during the firmware update process.

Restore Printer to Factory Defaults (if needed)

If the issue persists, you may need to reset the printer:

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  2. Confirm the reset and allow the printer to restart.

Note: This will remove all custom settings including Wi-Fi credentials.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, please let us know the exact error message displayed on the printer screen. That will help us provide more targeted support.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
