Hi @Kariba1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I completely understand how frustrating it feels when you’ve set everything up, followed the instructions, and yet the printer just sits idle instead of working seamlessly with your laptop.

Thank you for already going through the installation process—your effort matters, and we’ll build on that to get things flowing smoothly again.

Here are some clear steps you can try to bring your HP e6130 printer back into action:

Step 1: Restart the basics

  • Power off the printer, your laptop, and your Wi‑Fi router.
  • Wait about 30 seconds, then turn them back on in this order: router → printer → laptop.
This refresh clears any lingering connection states.

Step 2: Check the printer’s connection

  • On the printer’s control panel, confirm it is connected to the same Wi‑Fi network as your laptop.
  • If needed, run the wireless setup again to ensure the printer is on the correct network.

Step 3: Verify in your laptop

  • On Windows:
    1. Open Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
    2. Make sure your HP e6130 is listed. If it shows “Idle” or “Offline,” click on it and select “Open queue.”
    3. Clear any stuck print jobs, then try printing a test page.
  • On macOS:
    1. Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
    2. Select your HP e6130. If it shows “Idle,” remove it and add it again using the “+” button.
    3. Print a test page to confirm.

Step 4: Use the HP App

  • Open the HP App on your laptop.
  • Run the Diagnose & Fix option—it automatically checks for connectivity issues and resets the printer if needed.

Step 5: Double‑check firewall or VPN

  • If you’re using a firewall or VPN, temporarily disable it and test printing. Sometimes these block the communication between laptop and printer.

Step 6: Test with USB

  • If wireless still resists, connect the printer to your laptop with a USB cable.
  • This helps confirm whether the issue is purely network‑related.

With these steps, you should feel the printer wake up and respond properly. The “idle” state usually means the laptop and printer aren’t talking clearly, and refreshing the connection often resolves it.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
