Hi @kellypirate,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When your HP OfficeJet 5258 All-In-One Printer shows as online in the control panel but doesn't appear as an option in Adobe or Word, it suggests there might be an issue with the printer's driver or how the software applications are recognizing the printer. Here are several steps you can take to resolve this issue:

1. Check Default Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the HP OfficeJet 5258 is set as the default printer.
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on the HP OfficeJet 5258 and select Set as default printer.

2. Update or Reinstall Printer Driver:

  • Sometimes, updating or reinstalling the printer driver can resolve the issue.
    • Uninstall the Printer Driver:
      • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
      • Right-click on the HP OfficeJet 5258 and select Remove device.
    • Reinstall the Printer Driver:
      • Go to the HP website and download the latest driver for the HP OfficeJet 5258.
      • Follow the installation instructions provided by HP.

3. Restart Print Spooler Service:

  • Restarting the print spooler service can sometimes resolve printing issues.
    • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type services.msc and press Enter.
    • Find Print Spooler in the list, right-click on it, and select Restart.

4. Add Printer Manually:

  • Add the printer manually if it doesn't show up automatically.
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Click on Add a printer.
    • Follow the wizard to add your HP OfficeJet 5258.

5. Check Application Settings:

  • Make sure the printer is selected correctly within Adobe and Word.
    • In Adobe Acrobat or Reader:
      • Go to File > Print.
      • Ensure the HP OfficeJet 5258 is selected from the list of printers.
    • In Microsoft Word:
      • Go to File > Print.
      • Ensure the HP OfficeJet 5258 is selected from the list of printers.

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hi @kellypirate,

Please find the next set of steps below.

6. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • HP provides a tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor which can diagnose and fix many printing and scanning problems.
    • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP support website.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to identify and resolve issues.

7. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Sometimes, ensuring your Windows operating system is up to date can resolve compatibility issues.
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security.
    • Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

8. Reinstall the Applications:

  • If the problem persists, consider reinstalling Adobe and Word.
    • Uninstall Adobe Acrobat/Reader and Microsoft Word.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Reinstall the applications and check if the printer appears as an option.

9. Check Printer Connectivity:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your network or computer.
    • If the printer is connected via USB, try a different USB port.
    • If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, ensure it is connected to the same network as your computer.

If none of the above solutions work, there may be a more complex issue at play. Contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
