Since upgrading to windows 11 on my Older HP desktop pavilion 590 I print blank pages.    if I print from my phone it prints but not from my desktop.  I have tried all the steps such as removing printer and softwear and reinstalling but no luck.  I can print the test page.  I have also noticed now that everything prints in a light blue ink no matter how I change setting both on computer and phone.

Hi @jimbar1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 5255 is printing blank or very light pages from your HP Pavilion 590 desktop after upgrading to Windows 11, while printing from your phone works fine. Let’s go through some steps to resolve this issue.

a. Check Printer Driver Compatibility

After a Windows upgrade, old drivers may not work properly.

Go to HP Support → search for OfficeJet 5255 → Software and Drivers → download the full feature Windows 11 driver.

Avoid using the default Windows 11 driver — uninstall the current one before installing the HP full driver.

b. Clear Print Queue and Reset Printing System

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

Find Print Spooler, right-click → Stop.

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files inside.

Go back to Print Spooler → right-click → Start.

Retry printing.

c. Check Color & Ink Settings

Open Devices & Printers → OfficeJet 5255 → Printing Preferences.

Make sure Print in Grayscale is unchecked.

Set Quality to Normal or Best rather than Draft.

Click Apply → OK.

d. Update or Roll Back Graphics Drivers

Sometimes, Windows 11 graphics updates affect printer output.

Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Display adapters → Right-click → Update driver.

If the issue started immediately after the upgrade, try Roll Back Driver instead.

e. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows 11 from HP’s website.

Run the tool → select your OfficeJet 5255 → follow the automated steps to fix printing issues.

f. Test Printing from Different Apps

Try printing from Notepad, WordPad, or Microsoft Word.

If some apps print fine but others don’t, it may be an application-specific driver conflict.

I hope this helps.
