Product / Printer Model:  ?

Operating System:  ?

Software / Application:  ?

Connection Type:  ?

Content / File Type:  ?

Paper Size / Type: ?

Job type: Fax Driver called when trying to print

I do not see where you mentioned your Printer Model or Operating System / version.

If you did, I may have missed it, or your post failed to include that information.

Start with:

  • Supported printer model,
  • Supported version of Windows,
  • Installed and functional (working) full driver printer software,
  • Installed and supported application of software printing a supported file type with access to the Driver selection in the job setup

Common reasons for "printer thinks it is a fax" include one and more of the following ...

  • The Printer is not selected in the job setup / job configuration -- Instead, the Fax driver is selected.  Not the most common reason but worth checking.
    • General Example - HP Smart - Simple PDF Print (Standard "More Settings" menu) HP_Smart_Win_PDF_Print_16HP_Smart_Win_PDF_Print_16

-- "Reasons" -- Continue --

  • The full driver printer software is not installed.

OR

  • The full driver printer software is installed but is not fully functional (corruption of some kind).

→ → Ask if you need help to (re)install the full driver printer software

Include both your printer model and Windows Operating System / version

Next,

  • The full driver printer software is installed and is functional > the Default Printer is not correct or the default printer is under the control of Windows.

AND / OR

  • The full driver is installed, is functional, the default printer is selected > Printer Properties > Tab Advanced > Driver is incorrect / needs to be set to the installed HP Driver (and not the IPP / Microsoft Driver)

Preparation > Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”

Windows 11

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers and scanners

Scroll down > Switch OFF Let Windows manage my default printer

Scroll up > Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Set as Default

Windows 10

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

UNCHECK (clear box) / Switch OFF Let Windows manage my default printer

Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Manage > Set as Default

-- Note --

Printer Properties does depend on the full driver having been installed -

Ask if you need help / want details on installing the full driver.
