I'm due for a new printer. I've always been a HP user, but this last officejet has me looking elsewhere. Can anyone tell me if HP has wised up and improved their software as far as printer maintenance? The (2) OfficeJet Pro 8035's that I currently have frustrate the heck out of me every time they go into the 'checking printer' or 'printer maintenance' mode when I want to print. HP engineers- how would you feel if you went out to your garage headed somewhere important and your Tesla said "please wait, checking systems"?

Hi @sneladot,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The timing for printer maintenance, including cleaning and other routine tasks, can vary depending on the usage and environmental conditions of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 All-In-One Printer. However, here are some general guidelines for printer maintenance.
- Regular Cleaning: Dust and debris can accumulate inside the printer, affecting print quality. It's a good practice to clean your printer periodically. You can do this by using a lint-free cloth to wipe the exterior and interior surfaces. Be sure to turn off the printer and unplug it before cleaning.
- Paper Tray Inspection: Check the paper tray for any paper dust or debris that might cause paper jams. Remove any obstructions and make sure the paper is loaded correctly.
- Replace Ink Cartridges: When you notice a decrease in print quality or receive low ink warnings, it's time to replace the ink cartridges. The frequency of replacement depends on your printing habits.
- Print Head Cleaning: If you experience print quality issues like streaks or missing lines, you can perform a print head cleaning. Most printers, including the OfficeJet Pro 8035, have a built-in utility for this purpose.
- Software Updates: Keep your printer's firmware and software up to date. Manufacturers often release updates that can improve performance and fix bugs.
- Scheduled Maintenance: HP printers like the OfficeJet Pro 8035 may have a recommended maintenance schedule in the user manual. Check the manual for specific guidelines on when to perform maintenance tasks.
- Environmental Factors: If your printer is located in a dusty or humid environment, you may need to perform maintenance more frequently.
- Usage Patterns: The more you use your printer, the more often you might need to perform maintenance tasks. Heavy users may need to clean and replace consumables more frequently.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
