Hi @web1948,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is not printing straight on the paper, this issue is often related to alignment problems, paper handling issues, or settings that need adjustment. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check and Adjust Paper Feed
Paper Alignment:
- Ensure that the paper is properly aligned in the paper tray. The paper should be loaded correctly, without any slant or tilt.
Paper Guides:
- Adjust the paper guides in the tray to fit snugly against the edges of the paper. Misaligned paper guides can cause paper to feed crookedly.
Paper Type and Quality:
- Use the recommended paper type and quality for your printer. Avoid using wrinkled or damaged paper.
2. Perform Printer Alignment
Automatic Alignment:
- Most printers have an automatic alignment feature. Check the printer’s control panel or software for an option to align the printhead or cartridges.
- For HP Printers: Go to the printer’s control panel, select Setup or Tools, and then select Align Printer or Printhead Alignment.
Print Alignment Page:
- If your printer doesn’t support automatic alignment, you might need to print an alignment page and follow the instructions provided.
- This usually involves printing a test page and following on-screen instructions to align the printhead.
3. Check Printhead and Cartridges
Inspect Printhead:
- Ensure the printhead is properly installed. If it was recently reinstalled, make sure it is seated correctly.
- Clean the printhead contacts gently with a lint-free cloth if necessary.
Check Cartridges:
- Verify that the ink cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink. Replace any empty or low cartridges.
4. Adjust Printer Settings
Check Printer Settings:
- Open the printer properties from your computer’s Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners settings.
- Check the settings for paper type and size, and ensure they match the paper you are using.
Print Quality Settings:
- Sometimes adjusting the print quality settings can help. Go to the printer’s properties and select a higher quality setting if available.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel571,
Many thanks for your reply, I've done everything that you suggested but the printer is still printing crooked, I'll attach a copy of something that I've printed for you to see, this is one of the very bad ones.
Kind regards
Wendy
