Welcome to the HP English Community --
"Printer Preferences" perhaps refer to the Tray and Paper Settings in EWS??
In general, the DeskJet series uses a "Small", "Medium", and "Large" paper selection setup for Tray and Paper.
If you cannot switch the Paper Size / Type settings, it might be due to trying to select a paper size / type that is outside of what the printer supports. ?
If you are instead referring to "Printing Preferences" as it relates to Windows and your printer driver settings, then "4" is not a recognized setting.
In general, after the Embedded Web Server (EWS) is used to set up which small, medium, or large paper size and type is to be set as the "default" for that size category, the next step is to make sure the job setup is not in conflict with the EWS Tray and Paper Settings. The job setup uses Printing Preferences as a means to select the shortcut / custom shortcut for the current job AND to alert the printer to other current job settings.
If you need more help, consider providing information on your Operating System, the job type, and the intent -- that is, what you are dong and where it does not seem to be working as expected.
