HP ENVY Pro 6455 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having trouble setting up my HP ENVY PRO 6455 printer. I have installed the software and it prints an item I select but it will not let me into SCAN DOC, to do anything. I tied to get in and do a print calibrate, but I get a PORT MATCH error and it will not let me in to the program. Any Ideas? How do I get into the program where I can do INK LEVELS, PRINT CALIBRATE, TEST PAGE, etc? Thank you.

@Chuck1701, Thank you for your response.

Please follow these steps,

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor as Administrator

Even if it’s launching, it may not have the permission to access deeper system functions:

  • Right-click HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Select Run as administrator.
  • Retry clicking the buttons (Clean, Align, Diagnostic, etc.).

Firmware Update May Be Needed

Sometimes these tools don’t work properly unless the printer firmware is current:

HP Smart App Can Bypass These Issues

The HP Smart app (from the Microsoft Store) often works better than Print and Scan Doctor for:

  • Clean Printheads
  • Align Printheads
  • Diagnostic Page
  • Scan functions

👉 Install HP Smart App:

  1. Once installed, add your printer.
  2. Click on “Printer Settings” or “Print Quality Tools.”
  3. You should find all diagnostics/maintenance functions there — and they typically work from this app in most cases.

Low Ink Caution

Low black ink shouldn't prevent diagnostics, but:

  • If it's extremely low or empty, some maintenance features may be grayed out or ignored by the printer.
  • Try removing and reseating the black cartridge or replacing it if you're comfortable doing so — sometimes that's enough to re-enable the tools.

Try Using Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If the printer is connected to Wi-Fi:

  1. Find your printer’s IP address:
    • Print a Network Summary: Press Information (i) + Wireless together.
  2. Open a web browser, type in that IP (e.g., http://192.168.1.42).
  3. You'll access the Embedded Web Server.
  4. Look for Tools or Diagnostics tab — you may be able to clean, align, or check status from there.

USB vs Wi-Fi Conflict

If you originally set up the printer over USB but then switched to Wi-Fi, or vice versa, port mismatch issues can cause the tools to stop responding.

  • Check:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Ports.
    • Ensure the port listed matches your connection type (USB port or WSD/Standard TCP/IP for Wi-Fi).
  • If wrong:
    • Uncheck the current one, and check the correct port.
    • Or, remove and re-add the printer using the correct method.

Fully Reset the Printer (If Needed)

If nothing works, a semi-full reset can help:

  • On the printer, press Cancel + Wireless buttons at the same time until the Power light blinks (around 5 seconds).
  • This resets Wi-Fi and software settings but doesn’t delete print history or firmware.

I hope this helps!

@Chuck1701, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP ENVY Pro 6455 is printing but is having issues with the scanning functions and accessing printer maintenance tools due to a "PORT MATCH error." This is typically caused by the printer software not being able to properly communicate with the printer due to port misconfiguration or incomplete setup. Here’s a step-by-step guide to fix it and regain full access to scan, check ink levels, perform print calibration, and more:

Restart Everything

  • Power off the printer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Power the printer back on.
  • Wait for everything to fully boot, then try again.

Check the Connection Type

  • Make sure the printer is connected via the same method (Wi-Fi or USB) as selected during the software setup.
  • If you’re using USB, ensure it's securely plugged into both the printer and PC.
  • If using Wi-Fi, ensure:
    • Printer and PC are connected to the same network.
    • Printer Wi-Fi light is solid blue.
    • You can verify this via the printer’s control panel or by printing a Network Configuration Page:
      • Press and hold the Information button (i) + Wireless button together to print the page.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

This free tool can fix port mismatch issues and re-establish communication.

  • Download it: HP Print and Scan Doctor
  • Run the tool and select your printer.
  • Click "Fix Scanning" if prompted.
  • Follow the on-screen fixes for port mismatch or connectivity.

Reinstall HP Software with Full Feature Drivers

If the Scan or Utilities tab isn't showing properly, the HP Smart App or full drivers may be missing or corrupted.

  • Go to: HP ENVY Pro 6455 Software & Drivers
  • Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers.
  • Uninstall any old HP software (via Control Panel > Programs).
  • Reboot your PC.
  • Install the new package and follow setup instructions.

Use HP Smart App (Optional but Recommended)

The HP Smart app allows you to:

  • Scan documents,
  • Check ink levels,
  • Perform maintenance (alignment, cleaning, test prints),
  • Access printer settings.
  • Download from:
  • After installation:
    • Open HP Smart.
    • Add your printer.
    • Use the “Printer Settings” and “Scan” options from the dashboard.

Access Classic Printer Settings Panel

You can also access old-style printer tools from:

  • Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click your HP ENVY printer → choose Printing Preferences or Printer Properties.
  • Look for Maintenance, Services, or Tools tabs.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I restarted my computer and reloaded the software. I downloaded the latest setup version of the printer setup HP EASY START 16.8.12. Now this printer shows up in my DEVICES page and I can get to the diagnostics page. See screen shot. The diagnostic screen icons react when I click on them, but they do not open.  My black ink cartridge is low, but it is not affecting my print outs. Would this prevent it from printing a diagnostic page? I can get an ink level display, but it will not print out a diagnostic page or let me clean print heads. Any further help would be appreciated. I removed and reinstalled the software. I did the firmware update. I tried to use PRINT AND SCAN DOCTOR, both the normal way and as administrator. It will act like it is going to open, but it gets to the COMMUNICATE WITH PRINTER page and the loading bar will get to about 95% and freeze. I waited 30 minutes after it got that far and never finished. I downloaded and installed HP SMART APP. that seems to work. Thanks.
