@karensue67, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP LaserJet MFP 3101fdw printer is working for some functions (copying, scanning, printing from your phone), but won’t print from your laptop, especially for files sent from your business system or platform
Confirm Connection Between Laptop and Printer
Is the printer connected via Wi-Fi or USB?
- If Wi-Fi: Ensure both printer and laptop are on the same network.
- If USB: Make sure the cable is securely connected and not damaged.
Install or Reinstall the Correct Driver
- Visit: HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3101fdw Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Download the Full Feature Software or HP Smart App.
- Install it and follow on-screen setup prompts for your printer.
Even if it appears already installed, reinstalling can resolve corruption or misconfiguration.
Set the Correct Printer as Default
- On Windows:
- Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners
- Click your printer > Manage > Set as default
- Confirm it’s not trying to print to the old M234 or a “Microsoft Print to PDF” printer.
Clear Print Queue
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
- Right-click your printer > See what’s printing
- Cancel all documents
- Try printing again.
Try Printing a Test Page
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
- Right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Print Test Page
- This helps isolate if the issue is with your file/app or the print system.
Check File Type and App You’re Printing From
- If you're receiving files from your business system ("bleep"), are they PDFs, DOCs, images?
- Try opening the file in a different program (like Adobe Reader for PDFs) and print from there.
- Also, try downloading the file before printing, not printing directly from a browser preview.
Firewall or Security Software
- Some antivirus/firewall software may block printer communication.
- Temporarily disable the firewall and test print.
HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor
Run the tool – it will automatically detect and fix printing issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
