I have the HP Envy Inspire 7200 series [C4C65D] and have never had problems with it until now. I can print through the HP Smart app on my iPhone, but it will not wok through my laptop (I have a Mac processor 1.1 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 ) - I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, and app. I factory reset the printer, I also tried to connect it through the IP address. It shows up as online until I go to print something, then suddenly switches to offline and is "looking for printer". Trying it through the HP smart app, it gets stuck on "finding paper size" and will not print. All machines are on the same WiFi network. This has never been a problem before. Any solutions?

@kbeckett0925, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Restart Your Devices

Restart the Printer: Turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. This can clear any temporary connection issues.

Restart the Router: Sometimes issues can be network-related. Unplug your router for 30 seconds and plug it back in to refresh your connection.

Restart the Laptop: A restart can fix any software conflicts that may be causing the issue.

Check Printer Connection

Network Connection: Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop and iPhone.

On the printer's display screen, navigate to the Network settings to confirm that it’s connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Check the Wi-Fi signal strength on your printer—if it's too weak, try moving the printer closer to the router.

Update Printer Firmware and Software

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Update Drivers on the Mac:

Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and make sure the drivers are up to date.

If there’s an update, it should automatically appear here. Otherwise, you can go to the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.

Reset the Printer Network Settings

You mentioned factory resetting the printer, but it’s worth ensuring you reset the network settings specifically.

On the printer, go to Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Settings or Network Reset.

After the reset, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the HP Smart app or the printer’s touchscreen interface.

Run HP Smart:

Check the Printer Queue

Sometimes jobs can get stuck in the print queue, causing the printer to go offline. Try the following:

On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.

Select your printer, and click Open Print Queue.

If there are any stuck jobs, cancel them, and try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi! These are all troubleshooting things I tried before posting since I reviewed them in other discussions and none of it has worked. Is there anything beyond these steps?

Hey @kbeckett0925, thank you for your response

Please follow the steps below and you may refer to the guides as well:

First, unplug the printer completely, turn off your laptop and router, wait one minute, then power everything back on.

Next, let’s remove any old settings that could be causing problems. On your laptop, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Remove device. Then, go to Device Manager, under Print queues, and uninstall any drivers related to your printer. Now, reinstall it using HP Smart, this is the easiest way to ensure your printer is properly set up.

If the printer still doesn’t show up or keeps going offline, check your Wi-Fi network and make sure it’s connected to the same network as your laptop and phone. If possible, assign the printer a static IP address in your router settings so it doesn’t keep "disappearing."

If all else fails, try a factory reset on the printer and start fresh.
