HELP!  The HP printer software stopped working last week!  It may have been following a Windows 10 update (suspected).  I cannot get the software to reinstall.  I have spent 5 hours running every diagnostic and troubleshooting tool I can find.  I went completely through the "Troubleshooting HP printer software installation" tool, but it did not help.

I am having the same problem as this guy posted about. I tired his solution, regedit etc, but still having the same problem.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/Printer-software-will-not-install/m-p/7...

Basically I get to the Network Printer Installation Screen and after 5-10 minutes of the green bar scrolling I get the "Unsuccessful Network Installation" screen.  I can print to the printer from my phone and from the printer webpage via this laptop.  But I cannot get the HP software to reinstall (which had been working for 9 months...) and thus cannot directly print from the laptop.

Please help!  For homeschooling and work from home (covid...) I have to be able to access this printer.  Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the HP Support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and run HP full feature driver

Click here to download the driver.

Update the printer firmware

I hope that helps.

Hi SandyTechy20,

I went through the steps you suggested (thank you by the way).  Unfortunately I was not successful.  When I tried to remove the driver from the Printer Server Properties window, I got an error "Driver HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 was removed.  Failed to remove package hpvyt13.inf"

After the restart, I attempted to reinstall the HP printer software, following the link you provided.  This resulted in the same problem - "Installing Network Printer" window with green bar for about 10-minutes, this is followed by "unsuccessful network installation".  (see attached pics).

I did not re-run the downloadable troubleshh

Could you continue to look into this for me?

I agree with the idea that the software/ printer is not being completely uninstalled and leaving a remnant somewhere.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!  Thanks!!
