If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e is only printing test pages and keeps displaying the error "Something went wrong when trying to print," there are several steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Shut down your computer.
  • Wait for about a minute, then power on the printer and computer again.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or over the network.
  • Verify that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Software and Drivers page and enter your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e.

Check for Windows 11 Compatibility:

  • Ensure that your printer is compatible with Windows 11.
  • Update Windows to the latest version.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool
  • This tool will help diagnose and fix printing issues.

Clear Print Spooler:

  • Type services in the Windows search bar and open the Services app.
  • Scroll down and right-click on Print Spooler, then select Stop.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in the folder (you may need administrator privileges).
  • Go back to the Services app, right-click on Print Spooler, and select Start.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
