Hi @Finley2024,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer is not communicating with your Mac, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Printer Connectivity:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your network. Verify that the Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable is securely connected.
  • Restart your printer to refresh its network connection.

Check Printer Status:

  • Make sure your printer is turned on and there are no error messages or blinking lights on the printer’s display panel.

Restart Your Devices:

  • Restart both your printer and your Mac computer to reset any temporary connection issues.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure you have the latest printer drivers and software installed. You can do this by visiting the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your OfficeJet Pro 7740.

Verify Printer Settings on Mac:

  • Go to "System Preferences" on your Mac, and select "Printers & Scanners."
  • Make sure your printer is listed and set as the default printer. If you see multiple versions of your printer, choose the one that is showing “Idle” instead of “Offline.”
  • If the printer does not show up correctly, try removing and re-adding it here.

Check for Software Updates:

  • Make sure that your Mac is running the latest version of macOS, as updates often include improvements for connectivity issues.

Try Printing a Test Page:

  • Attempt to print a test page from your printer’s menu to see if the issue persists.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Although HP Print and Scan Doctor is primarily for Windows, you can find similar troubleshooting tools or support for Mac on the HP support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
